„The pliable seat...“ the new film project of Wu Wei publishing house
“Even world-class riders and Olympic champions should only work more permanently on the right seat”, this is what Mr. Johann Riegler said, the chief instructor of the Spanish Riding School, Vienna. Still this year, November 2009 he will publish his film “The pliable seat” – the language between rider and horse”. This movie is made for all riders and hobby riders, dressage riders, children, show jumpers, Polo players, bush riders…in the first place for all moving a horse…regardless of any horse breeds. It is always about the balance in the seat, about the sitting without reins, about a pliable attention to the movements of the horse.
This is the A and O. And only in this way the much-intended dignified interaction of the horse will be understood.
Mr. Riegler has been working exclusively for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna for 39 years and had to spend time on the lunge, before he was finally allowed to take the reins into his hands!
So today it is his concern to give these experiences with the seat training further to all riders. In the movie a beginner is shown as well as a sophisticated rider and a pro – it is shown with all associated problems and several approaches or rather exercises that lead to a pliable seat. After this no questions will be open any more. 60 minutes pure instructional film; practical as well for riding instructors who would like to integrate the seat lunge into their education.
To create an optical delicacy, this production of the Wu Wei publishing house is standing for absolutely innovation and quality. The shooting in Kreuth (Lower Bavaria) was prepared from 15 technicians and mechanics four days long. The film location is a quite simply lunge circle. The challenge was to create a film studio from a lunge circle in that way that is wasn’t able to see any background, which would deviate from the horse on the lunge or from the riders.
The technique should have been installed in that way, that there wouldn’t be any other person but Mr. Riegler inside the lunge circle – so that Mr. Riegler should have had the possibility to move absolutely freely. Another challenge should have been to catch any possible movement of the riding body very close with the most calm camera work, namely in slow motion.
The solution: to work with two cameras. One suspended in the air above the person with the lunge and one from the outside as long shot. On the 10 meter high ceiling a tower cam with a remote head was installed. This remote head changes axial for direction; it is controllable from an electronic desk from the outside of the lunge circle – thus, both: a remote-controlled camera and also a remote-controlled camera head were needed. All this – in this combination - is only used twice worldwide, and once for our shooting, June 16th and 17th in Kreuth. Furthermore more than 100 meter fabric were used and many buckets with colour. This all makes the studio-look perfect in the end.
Without a supporting sponsoring team such a production isn’t possible at all. The Wu Wei publishing house thanks to: Pferdesport Spirig, St. Gallen, Switzerland for a brilliant care and assistance locally, concerning saddles, horse-gear, tapes, etc. as well as to Sonnenreiter riding apparel and Roeckl gloves. The marvelous Trakehnen horses were allocated by stud Leichthof, Mrs. Barbara Mechler.
